Gyudon

The highlight is the rice crisped up in the beef’s own rendered fat, all cooked twice in one pot.

Rice cooker 10 min · easy

Ingredients

  • Leftover rice
  • 3 handfuls beef short plate
  • 1/2 onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Minced garlic
  • Cabbage leaves
  • 2 eggs
  • Chopped chives and sesame seeds, to finish

Instructions

1Leftover rice, beef short plate, and sliced onion combined in the pot

Combine the leftover rice, beef short plate, and sliced onion in the pot.

2Rice, beef, and onion in the pot before the first steam

First steam: cook on Multi-Cook for 6 minutes (set the timer for 10 and open the lid once 3-4 minutes remain, after manually releasing the pressure).

3Beef and onion mixture after the first steam, before draining the fat

Drain off the excess fat rendered from the beef.

4Soy sauce and sugar being poured over the beef and onion

Season with soy sauce, sugar, and minced garlic, and mix well.

5Cabbage leaf and egg layered on top of the seasoned beef

Layer cabbage leaves and the eggs on top.

6Rice cooker lid closed for the second steam

Second steam: cook on Multi-Cook for another 3-4 minutes.

7Finished gyudon garnished with chopped chives and sesame seeds

Garnish with chopped chives and sesame seeds.
