Nasi Goreng
Indonesian fried rice with shrimp and a runny steamed egg, all in one pot.
Ingredients
- Cold leftover rice
- 1 tbsp cooking oil
- 0.5 tbsp minced garlic
- 1 tbsp sambal sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce (or soy sauce)
- 1 tbsp syrup
- A handful of shrimp
- A handful of bean sprouts
- Oil, for greasing
- 2 eggs
- Chopped chives and crushed peanuts, to finish
Instructions

Add the cold rice, cooking oil, minced garlic, sambal sauce, oyster sauce, syrup, and shrimp to the rice cooker and cook on Multi-Cook mode for 10 minutes (or 2 minutes on High Pressure in an Instant Pot).

Stir everything together so the sauce coats evenly.

Add the bean sprouts, plus a small oiled plate with the eggs cracked onto it, and cook for another 10 minutes on Multi-Cook (or 2 minutes on High Pressure).

Mix the bean sprouts into the fried rice, then carefully place the steamed eggs on top.

Garnish with chopped chives and crushed peanuts.
Tip. Release the steam and take the eggs out right away if you want runny yolks.
